Dear Student and Family,

Our Healthful Living program is one of several classroom subjects offered during the school day. Please understand that it is not recess or playtime. Students will have Healthful Living classes twice over a six day period. Please check to see which day these classes occur so students are prepared for class. We feel that our classes provide the students with opportunities to learn skills that will help them live a healthier and more fulfilled life. We also work to support what our students are learning in the areas of math, science, social studies and language arts.

GOALS/OBJECTIVES…Why Children Need Healthful Living classes:

  • Quality Healthful Living programs will help to improve children’s muscular strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, body composition and cardiovascular endurance.
  • Physical activity throughout the school day promotes brain function and development, helping students learn and think better.

SAFETY IN HEALTHFUL LIVING.…Appropriate Apparel:

  • Appropriate footwear must be worn in class each day to ensure your child’s safety. Sneakers or tennis shoes with laces or velcro are acceptable. Laces must be tied!
  • Cleats, boots, sandals, flip-flops or dress shoes are not safe for your child to wear while participating.
  • Remind girls to wear shorts or pants under their dresses in Healthful Living class.

LIMITED ACTIVITIES…Department Policy:

  • Please notify the nurse and large group teachers if there are any physical conditions that would limit your child’s activity in class.
  • If your child is not to participate for more than 3 days, he/she must have a doctor’s note.
